The Simon’s Town Art Group (STAG) was founded by artists Ryno Swart, Mike Munnik and Paul Andrew in 1998.
Artists from the far Southern Cape Peninsula formed the group. Their first exhibition took place in April 1998 at the Albertyn’s Stables in Simon’s Town – later the Stone Age Foundry.
Members now meet monthly on the third Thursday of each month in the STAG Studio, on the Simon’s Town Library premises, for demonstrations, discussions, videos and hands-on workshops from practising artists.
Current artists exhibit regularly at a variety of exhibitions in their personal capacity and also at the Annual Member’s Exhibition in the Simon’s Town Library Hall. Income generated by way of membership fees, commission and donations improve STAG’S facilities and equipment and help support local charities and schools which focus on art.
This exciting MEMBER’S EXHIBITION at The Studio Art Gallery in March 2021 will be the first of its kind for STAG. Recent work created by members will enable the Group to showcase the diverse talents and dedication of the STAG artists.
Opening Event
Well done to the STAG members who took part in this exhibition. We look forward to seeing this group grow into a world-class art society. Thank you to all who came out in support of our local artists.

To better facilitate the curation of the exhibition, members have been encouraged to create at least one artwork on a quality canvas with specific sizes of 50cm by 50cm square or 50cm by 60cm landscape or portrait and at least 2.5cm deep.

The selection process will take place on 2 March and artists will be informed via email on the outcomes.
All artworks must be for sale, and the exhibition will run until March 26.
